MEMBERSHIP

All Persons of Enugu State origin, and their families resident in the United States of America, is eligible to become members of the Association through chapter membership.

A chapter shall be a union of Enugu State indigenes and their families who are domiciled in a particular locality such as a state or region.

A chapter of the Association shall be formed wherever citizens of Enugu State and their families reside.

A registered chapter is that chapter which has paid the chapter registration fee, the annual dues, and convention fees. An active chapter is that chapter which attends the National Council and Board of Directors meetings and the Convention. A registered active chapter shall be a chapter in good standing in this Association.

 


What are the
BENEFITS of joining Enugu Association USA ?

[1] Purpose per the constitution

One of the purposes stated in our constitution is to support the economic, educational, cultural, political and social growth of Enugu State of Nigeria. These in turn will lead to a more stable and inhabitable Enugu State for all of us to enjoy. As a national organization, we are in a better position to influence decisions that will impact social and economic issues in Enugu State. For example, during the recently concluded 2001 convention in Houston Texas, SECURITY IN ENUGU STATE was a major topic discussed. Information reaching us is that the State government has taken steps to improve this situation based on the recommendations of the Security Panel. Other areas discussed extensively at the convention include:

      1. Education

      2. Healthcare

      3. Economic Development

      4. Science and Technology

      5. Welfare of Enugu People.

Many Enugu State citizens with various academic and professional backgrounds presented papers in the above areas with recommendations and solutions on how to improve Enugu State. From this standpoint, it is obvious that Enugu USA provides patriotic citizens of Enugu State a forum through the annual conventions to share ideas on how to make positive changes in the state. Such forum may not be possible within a local Enugu chapter. More importantly, recommendations from a local chapter may not have the same type of impact on the state government like the one from a national organization. Communiqués issued at the end of every convention are made available to Enugu State government to inform them of our activities. Enugu Association USA has the attention of Enugu State Government and her people. One local Enugu chapter will be less successful in accomplishing this than will all Enugu chapters working together under an umbrella organization.

[2] Other benefits

New and existing unique benefits at the national level available to members of affiliate chapters that may not be readily apparent include but are not limited to the following:

  • Members of affiliate chapters in good standing with the association will receive up to 50 percent savings in registration fees during the annual conventions. Your membership status with your local chapter must be active when you register for the convention to ensure that you receive the member rate. Affiliate chapters should keep their memberships current and renew them promptly to avoid a lapse in benefits. Affiliate chapters must provide their membership list to the National body per Article 5; Section 5:2 of the constitution to allow their members to receive the member rate.

  • Enugu USA affords us opportunity to establish relationships with other members outside our immediate local chapters. The organization creates opportunities for establishing new contacts and/or reestablishing contacts with lost friends and relatives.

  • By maintaining a close association with other Enugu State citizens outside our local chapters, we build the kind of friendships that will benefit us throughout our lives. For instance, some of us have become very good friends with several of our people who we would not have known if not for Enugu USA. It will be impossible to quantify what this may mean to an individual.

  • Enugu USA is also a great organization for career networking with our members who may be in a position to assist other members. Professionally, it can help us to build a network that can be invaluable when considering a job change.

  • The Enugu USA annual convention as stated above, is an excellent way to share ideas and learn from our people. The organization provides learning and networking opportunities by holding workshops / plenary sessions during the annual conventions. These sessions provide opportunity to dialogue on issues of interest to members and Enugu people in general. The sessions can also increase our knowledge and keep us informed of new developments in Enugu State or educate us on how to make necessary improvements.

  • Serving as a national officer or participating in a committee is an excellent way to develop and strengthen our leadership and organizational skills beyond our local chapters. It's like a low risk on-the-job training for managing a company with branches outside the home base! We can improve our skills in delegating, meeting facilitation and motivation, just to name a few.

  • The Enugu USA Awards Program is designed to offer encouragement and reward to members, individuals and chapters for working for the welfare of Enugu State citizens. Being recognized among your people / peers from a wider audience has a tremendous psychological and /or emotional boost that cannot be quantified.
